What is Voltaren?
Voltaren (diclofenac) is a drug in the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, which is used for treatment of inflammations and for reduction of pain in patients with certain conditions. The medication was first introduced by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis and has been used since then as an effective anti-inflammatory drug.
What are the indications for using generic Voltaren?
The main uses of Voltaren include:
- Arthritis is a disease, which leads to swelling and inflammation of joints.
- Dysmenorrhea is a condition characterized by painful menstruations.
- Migraine is a severe headache that is accompanied by a throbbing pain, which is felt mostly on one side of the head.
The dosage of Voltaren should only be approved by your health care provider depending on your medical history and how serious your condition is. The standard dosage of Voltaren for ordinary patients suffering from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis is 75 mg tablet taken twice a day. For pain relief the dosage of prescribed drug is 50 mg taken three times in the first day of the treatment. Afterwards, the daily dosage of Voltaren should not exceed 150 mg. The tablets should be taken whole with sufficient amount of water, do not crush or chew them.
What are the contraindications for using generic Voltaren?
Before taking Voltaren, inform your health care provider about your medical history, especially if you suffer from any heart diseases, asthma, high blood pressure, problems with stomach and intestines, or allergies. You should not take the medication if you recently had a heart bypass surgery. Also, do not use Voltaren if you have previously experienced any allergic reactions to aspirin. It is advised not to take the drug during pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding, as it can have negative impact on the health of the baby.
What are the adverse effects of generic Voltaren?
In case you notice any symptoms related to allergic reactions, including, but not limited to, skin redness, skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, tongue or lips, difficulties breathing, get the emergency medical aid without hesitation. Common adverse effects of taking generic Voltaren may include mild diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, heartburn, bloating and headaches. If you notice these symptoms, inform your medical specialist, as the adjustment of Voltaren dosage may be required.
