What is Strattera?
Strattera is a drug developed for treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Strattera’s full medical name is Atomoxetine and it is classified as norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Drugs of this type lead to complex mental reactions and are very efficient in treating various emotional conditions and mental disorders. Strattera was developed quite recently by Eli Lilly and Company, and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006. Since that time, Strattera has achieved moderate popularity, especially after generic Strattera (atomoxetine) appeared on the market.

What are the indications for using Strattera?
Generic Strattera is indicated for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This is a developmental disorder that causes difficulties in attention and inhibition control, such as hyperactivity, impulsiveness and attention deficits, which are typical for people of a younger age.

Strattera is also believed to be useful in the treatment of depression, though investigations are still ongoing.

What is the dosage of Strattera?
Strattera is usually supplied in the form of 10, 18, 25, 40, or 60 mg tablets. Dosage is usually determined by the patient’s body weight, with a standard daily dose of 0.5 mg per kilogram. Doses over 100 mg are not recommended. Due to the complex nature of ADHD, treatment with Strattera should usually continue for extended periods of time before definite results are established. This drug should be stored in a dry place at room temperature and may be taken with or without food.

Strattera is contraindicated in patients with an allergy to its active substance, as well patients suffering from narrow angle glaucoma, pheochromocytoma, heart or liver problems.
