What is Sinequan?
Sinequan (doxepin) is an antidepressant of the tricyclic class, which is used in treatment of depression, insomnia and anxiety disorder. It may also be incorporated in treatment of other disorders, but it should always be approved by your doctor. The drug works by regulating the hormones in the brain, the imbalance of which is a common cause of depression.

What are the indications for using Sinequan?
Sinequan is known for the treatment of the following disorders:

  • Depression is a mental state typically felt over a prolonged time period and is accompanied by feelings of sadness and hopelessness. Depression is a serious disorder, which should never be overlooked. It can be caused by biological factors, prolonged periods of stress, genetic predisposition and requires medical help as well as behavior therapy.

  • Anxiety is a disorder accompanied by the feelings of nervousness, fear and worry and often without any apparent reasons. Sinequan helps to relieve anxiety and tension by improving the hormones in the brain.

  • Insomnia is a condition that makes it difficult for someone to fall asleep or stay asleep through the night and get enough rest. Depression and anxiety are often accompanied by insomnia, as both of these conditions make it difficult for a person to relax.

What is the dosage of Sinequan?
The standard optimum dose of Sinequan ranges from 75 mg/day to 150 mg/day. It is recommended to start with a lower dose and then increase it, if necessary. Sinequan comes in tablets, capsules or a liquid concentrate. The capsules are generally taken 1 to 3 times per day independently of food. The dosage of Sinequan should always be agreed by your medical advisor.

What are the contraindications for using Sinequan?
Inform your medical advisor if you are hypersensitive to tricyclic antidepressants or have any allergies, glaucoma, brain tumor, troubles urinating or prostatic hypertrophy. Sinequan should not be taken by children. It is not recommended to take Sinequan if you are breastfeeding a baby or pregnant, as the effect of the drug on a baby is unknown. Do not use Sinequan if you have been consuming MAO inhibitors within the past two weeks.

What are the adverse effects of Sinequan?
The common adverse effects include fatigue, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heartburn and indigestion. If you have severe allergic reactions (redness, swelling, itching, and rash) or any worsening of the symptoms, seek medical help immediately.
