What is Floxin?
Floxin is an antibiotic drug used to treat bacterial infections in various parts of the body. Antibiotics are drugs that fight bacterial infections, but Floxin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which means that it is synthetic in nature and is suited to treat a broad range of infections. Floxin was first produced under the name of Oxfloxacin, as a more universal alternative to norfloxacin, another fluoroquinolone antibiotic. The drug itself is a hybrid of levofloxacin and dextrofloxacin. It was patented in 1982 and was approved for marketing by the FDA in 1990. Since then, many generic versions of the drug and offshoots have become widespread.

What are the indications for using Floxin?
Floxin is suitable for treating mild to moderate infections of the following kinds:

  • Chronic bronchitis – an obstructive lung disease that narrows airways and causes various breathing problems and respiratory issues.
  • Community-acquired pneumonia – another lung disease, which is picked up from social contact. This type of pneumonia is highly infectious, and in fact remains one of the leading causes of death around the globe.
  • Skin infection – an inflammation that can be of different origin (fungal, bacterial, viral, etc.) which causes harm and damage to the skin or its structure.
  • Acute Gonorrhea – a sexually transmitted infection which causes great pain and can be very dangerous if left untreated.
