Benicar is an antihypertensive agent of the ARB class used to treat hypertension and its after-effects. It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, thus improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure. 20mg once daily is a usual starting monotherapeutic dose for hypertension in adults who are not volume-contracted. If further lowering blood pressure is required, the dose can be up-titrated 2 weeks after the initiation of treatment.

The medicine is intended for treatment of hypertension – a condition of having high blood pressure. Prolonged periods of having high blood pressure can lead to different cardiovascular diseases or strokes.
